Ten Fantastic Venues in Cumbria for your wedding…
Cumbria is the jewel county in the UK for destination weddings, with stunning backdrop vistas, an infinite number of stunning photo opportunities and landscapes to take the breath away at every mile, it’s easy to see why the charm and beauty of the region, captures many an imagination for that special dream or fairy tale location.
Along with the very best of nature there are though some stunning venues. Here is just a mere selection, a tip of the iceberg if you will, of the diversity available in this geographic gem.
There are many many more venues we could have mentioned in this post and this is no way a ‘Top Ten’ or ‘Best of’, rather a short reference of just a handful across a range of sizes, styles and locations.
In no particular order…
Standing at the northern tip of the only lake in the Lake District, Bassenthwaite Lake, is the splendid venue of Armathwaite Hall. Situated in an often unexplored part of the region for passing visitors, except those venturing to the Lake District Wildlife Park nestled behind, this stunning hotel and spa is everything a wedding venue should be.

One of the things that captivates people to get married in the Lake District are the fantastic ‘Boutique Venues’, often slightly off the beaten track. Not so with this little gem. Situated above Windermere a stones throw off the main A591 is the delightful Broadoaks Country House Hotel.

Merewood Country House Hotel
There are surprisingly many hidden treasures dotted around the Lake District that are so easy to drive passed or miss. One of those that thankfully no longer fits this category is the Merewood Hotel, close to Windermere on the A591, and very well sign posted. This wonderful venue, set in it’s own estate has to be visited to appreciate. Relaxed and informal – perfect get away wedding venue.

The Swan Hotel & Spa
This time on the southern shores of Windermere, this hotel can be best be described as ‘more than a boutique hotel!’, with a luxurious blend of traditional and modern styling that makes any visitor, no matter how brief, feel very welcome. Perhaps it’s most familiar feature being the historic bridge, we’ll leave you to find out more on this when you visit.

The Daffodil Hotel
Two things not easy to do in the Lake District, build a new successful hotel and make it look like it’s right at home. The Daffodil Hotel in Grassmere achieved just that, almost overnight! They do say location, location, location well this place has it all, location and presence! Adjacent to the home of England’s most famous poet Wordworth, if it’s a hotel your not yet familiar with planning a wedding, you should be!

Beech Hill Hotel
Cosy and Warm! That’s the feeling we get whenever we visit this fantastic hotel, with its stunning sun terrace overlooking the southern half of Windermere, and the hotels own gardens, it’s no surprise to see why it’s as popular as it is for weddings (and other occasions). The brief, photogenic roadside stone front, belies the true extent of the accommodation available inside.

Netherwood Hotel
Heading slightly further south, on the outskirts of Grange-over-Sands, is the imposing Victorian mansion of Netherwood Hotel, set in it’s own woodland (watch out for red squirrels) with breath taking views across Morecombe Bay. Despite and because of its external grandeur, this is a hotel worth serious consideration, the staff alone are as friendly and down to earth as any found in the smallest guest house. No matter what the weather this has to be considered a wedding idyll.

Lodore Falls Hotel
Heading north now, to the Borrowdale Valley on the edges of Derwent Water, is the impressive Lodore Falls Hotel, (easy to misspell or is that just us?), named after the Lodore Falls, waterfall just behind. This hotel boasts a lovely garden gazebo for the ‘al-fresco’ weddings. Close by, along with the beautiful Derwent Water landscape, is Ashness Bridge, one of the most photographed location in the Lake District and ‘surprise view’ just above with the full – simply stunning – panorama of Derwent Water & Keswick below.

Inn on the Lake
Oh yes, right in the heart of the lakes on, in our opinion, one of the most picturesque lakes in the Lake District, Ullswater, is the aptly named Inn in the Lake. Picture postcard wedding anyone? -it’s right here! Popular with locals, visitors and walkers too, which is always a good indication.
